Building Dual-Immersion Teacher Capacity: A Partnership Between Sonoma State University and Loma Vista Immersion Academy
Sonoma State University (SSU) and Loma Vista Immersion Academy (LVIA) have formed a new partnership focusing upon the professional development of Spanish-English dual-immersion teachers in a transition kindergarten (TK) through grade 6 setting. This partnership aims to build both the capacity and number of Spanish-English dual-immersion educators addressing the growing need for well-qualified professionals throughout the North San Francisco Bay Area.
Loma Vista has set a new Accelerated Reading Challenge Goal for the 2016-2017 school year at 75,000,000 (75 million) words. Reading practice is the best way to improve reading for all of us. Students are reading 20-30 minutes per day at school. Help with this important effort by reading with your child 20-30 minutes per night. Loma Vista Immersion Academy students reached last year's goal of 12 million words and are up for the challenge of 75 million words!
Loma Vista is expanding the music Program. The Loma Vista Puentes Music Program bridges academics, personal enrichment and growth through music.
The primary grades continue to share music through Choral singing with Teacher Luna Collins. In Grades 4 through 6, a Rhythm Instruments program is presented to each class.
Also in grades 4-6, Jazz Band has young musicians playing in the traditional elective schedule. Loma Vista is also excited to see young musicians in grades 4-6 be the premier group for Loma Vista’s Percussion and Marimba Ensemble.
